Stock Market Highlights on Tuesday, May 26, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell dramatically on Tuesday, as the US’s defensive attacks in southern Iran dashed hopes for a peace settlement.
The Nifty50 closed 118.00 points, or 0.49 percent, lower at 23,913.70, while the Sensex slid 479.26 points, or 0.63 percent, to 76,009.70.
The top losers in the Nifty50 index were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises, Wipro India, and Bharti Airtel.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap Index closed 0.54 percent higher after reaching a new high throughout the session. The SmallCap was up 0.35%.
The Nifty Consumer Durables sector experienced the greatest loss. The Nifty Financial Services and the Nifty Private Bank fell the most. Meanwhile, the Nifty Metal and the Nifty Chemical outperformed. The Nifty PSU Bank and the Nifty Private underperformed, but the Nifty IT and the Nifty Metal outperformed.
Despite ongoing negotiations, the United States launched new strikes in southern Iran on Tuesday morning. The strikes were carried out to protect US troops from Iranian forces, according to sources by the US Central Command.
