Share Market Close Highlights: Sensex ends near day’s high; Nifty tops 22,700 as Rupee recovers; IT, FMCG rise

Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, April 2, 2026: The Indian market benchmark indices overcame all intraday losses to extend its extrend rising streak into the second session, as the rupee rose against the US dollar and IT stocks advanced.

The Nifty50 closed 0.15 percent higher, or 33.70 points, at 22,713.10, while the Sensex closed 0.25 percent higher, or 182.23 points, at 73,319.55.

The top gainers in the Nifty50 index were HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, and Tata Consumer Products.

Broader markets also finished off the day’s lows. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.30 and 0.50 percent lower, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT and Nifty Realty beat their counterparts. The Nifty Construction Durable and the Nifty Pharma had the worst performances.

Stock markets in India are closed on Friday for the ocassion of Good Friday.
