Share Market Close Highlights: Sensex sheds 443 pts, Nifty at 24239; pvt banks, financials bleed; PSBs outshine

Stock Market Highlights on Monday, July 20, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex closed down as bank and financial stocks weighed, as traders analyzed the tensions between the United States and Iran.

The Sensex fell 443 points or 0.57 per cent to 77,708.52, and the Nifty50 ended 96 points or 0.39 per cent lower at 24,238.50.

The biggest losers in the Nifty50 index were Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and Maruti Suzuki India.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap closed 0.6% and 0.16 percent higher, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Private Bank and the Nifty Financial Services decreased the most, while the Nifty Pharma and the Nifty PSU Bank increased the most.
