Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, Aug 19, 2026: The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty 50 fell on Wednesday, as rising crude oil prices and lingering geopolitical risks dampened market optimism.
The Sensex declined for the fourth day in a row, closing 325.78 points, or 0.42 percent, lower at 76,909.68. The Nifty 50 index fell 76.60 points, or 0.32 percent, to 24,078.30, marking the seventh consecutive session of fall.
The biggest loses in the Nifty50 were Max Healthcare Institute, Coal India, and Power Grid Corporation of India.
In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap lost 0.21% and 0.51%, respectively. Sectorally, the Nifty Chemical underperformed, while the Nifty IT outperformed.
