Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, Aug 5, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex climbed after the Reserve Bank of India kept interest rates constant at 5.25 percent and maintained a neutral posture, in line with market expectations.
The central bank forecasts India’s GDP growth at 6.7% for the current fiscal year. The headline inflation rate for the current fiscal year is expected to be 5%, up from the previous projection of 5.1%.
The Nifty50 gained 0.04 percent, or 9.75 points, to 24,624.65, while the Sensex finished 152.05 points, or 0.19 percent higher, at 78,581.00.
Shriram Finance, Grasim Industries, and JSW Steel were the top gainers on the Nifty50 index.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap ended 0.18 and 0.7% higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Auto outperformed, while the Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank lagged behind.
