Stock Market Highlights on Monday, Aug 24, 2026: The benchmark indices fell as geopolitical tensions rose after Iran threatened to detain vessels and change transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz ahead of the US’s announcement of sanctions against Iran.
The Sensex slid 171.72 points, or 0.22 percent, to 77,369.11, while the Nifty50 dropped 32.95 points, or 0.14 percent, to 24,219.05.
The Nifty50 index’s top losers included SBI Life Insurance Company, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, and Bajaj Finance.
In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap increased 0.13 percent, while the Nifty SmallCap dipped 0.26 percent.
Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank fell the most, while the Nifty Metal advanced.
