Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, Oct 8, 2026: Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 ended significantly lower on Thursday due to escalating crude oil prices and outflows from foreign funds impacting market sentiment.
Brent crude surged by 4 percent, surpassing $104 a barrel, heightening worries about ongoing price pressures.
The Sensex dropped 1,045.46 points or 1.44 percent to close at 71,593.24, whereas the Nifty50 fell 371.25 points or 1.64 percent to conclude at 22,231.80.
Among Nifty constituents, Adani Enterprises and JSW Steel were the main underperformers, while Infosys and Axis Bank ended with slight increases.
Across sectors, all the indices closed lower. Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Oil & Gas ranked as some of the primary underachievers.
The India VIX, a measure of volatility, jumped by more than 10 percent.
Wider markets experienced significant selling pressure, as the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 fell over 2 percent each.
