World Autism Awareness Day: 5 Habits To Help Kids Manage Everyday Independently

Autism is a neurological disorder that is often not talked about so much resulting in less awareness about the same. Knowledge is important to be more empathetic and sensitive. As per the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition, autism, which is also known as autism spectrum disorder, is a broad category of ailments linked to brain development. People with autism have different needs and abilities, and these might change over time. While some autistic individuals can live independently, others have significant difficulties and need care and support for the rest of their lives. ”In 2007, the United Nations declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day. As the name suggests, the day aims to raise awareness about it and “affirm and promote the full realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic people on an equal basis with others”.

This year the theme for World Autism Awareness Day is ‘Empowering Autistic Voices’ which aims at providing more support and power to individuals with this condition, in order to ensure they lead a meaningful life and even pursue successful careers.

5 Everyday Habits to Manage Autism

  1. Have a Routine: Having a consistent routine and schedule of things may help them grow new skills and adapt.
  2. Fun Teaching Modules: Incorporating fun-based activities can help with better and relatively quick grasping of things. This can also help the children to connect and open
  3. Balanced Diet: This is an essential part of lifestyle. It is important to chart out a proper diet plan to ensure the right balance of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is better to consult your doctor for personalised and apt meal plan.
  4. Build Positive Aura: It is important to facilitate and create a positive social environment. Encourage by complimenting them on achieving small milestones. It serves as motivation and may help them to indulge in more such activities making them a bit more independent.
  5. Regular Exercising: Exercising can help channel their hyperactivity energy in a better manner. Staying active, in general, also helps with better cognition and leads towards a healthy lifestyle. This also can boost strength, endurance, body balance and better coordination.

Every child with autism may behave differently and need a different kind of modality to meet their demands. They can better manage their lives with the aid of therapies, lifestyle changes, and routines. There are numerous instances where children with autism go on to have independent, healthy lives. It is crucial to be more aware of and knowledgeable about it as a result.
