Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, April 16, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell from their highs as bank and auto stocks weighed, while traders awaited further news regarding the planned US-Iran talks.
The biggest declines in the Nifty50 index were HDFC Bank, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and HDFC Life Insurance Company.
Broader markets outperformed their benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.63 and 0.83 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal and Nifty IT outperformed, while the Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services were the biggest losers.
