Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, April 22, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex broke a three-day winning streak as IT stocks fell. Global equities fell as the failed US-Iran talks fueled fears of extended confrontation in West Asia.
The Nifty50 closed down 0.81 percent, or 198.50 points, at 24,378.10, while the Sensex closed down 0.95 percent, or 756.84 points, at 78,516.49.
Broader markets outpaced benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap ended up 0.19 percent and 1.13 percent, respectively.
The Nifty IT was the worst-performing sectors index. Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Auto both underperformed.
The US has prolonged its cease-fire with Iran until the latter submits a unified resolution proposal. In a tweet on the Truth social network, President Donald Trump claimed a’seriously broken Iranian government’ to announce the extension.
However, Trump stated that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will continue.
According to sources, the ceasefire extension announcement came after US Vice President JD Vance’s meeting with Iranian counterparts was cancelled because Tehran said that it would not attend additional discussions.
