Stock Market Highlights on Friday, April 24, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell in Friday’s session as oil prices rose, as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz owing to stalled US-Iran talks shook the risk appetite.
The Nifty50 closed 1.14 percent, or 275.10 points, lower at 23,897.95, while the Sensex fell 982.71 points, or 1.27 percent, to 76,681.29.
The top three losers in the Nifty IT index were Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Tech Mahindra.
Broader markets declined along with the main indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.96 percent and 0.87 percent lower, respectively.
The Nifty IT fell 5% as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services weighed. The Nifty Pharma and Nifty Media also weighed.
The Nifty Metal beat its peers, experiencing the least decrease.
Brent crude was trading far above $100 per barrel as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continued to impede energy supplies. The April futures contract was trading 2.07% higher at $107.25 per barrel.

Adani Green Energy, Atul, Can Fin Homes, Chennai Petroleum Corporation, DCB Bank, IndusInd Bank, Lodha Developers, L&T Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Mangalore Refiner & Petrochemicals, Reliance Industries, Supreme Petrochem, Tanla Platforms, and Zensar Technologies will all report their fourth-quarter earnings.
