Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, April 30, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex closed lower, reflecting a strong jump in oil prices due to the US-Iran impasse.
The Nifty50 closed 180.10 points, or 0.74 percent, lower at 23,997.55, while the Sensex closed 582.86 points, or 0.75 percent lower, at 76,913.50.
Brent crude prices rose as rumors surfaced that the US had rejected Iran’s peace plan and instructed the intensification of the blockade at the Strait of Hormuz.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Eternal, and Hindalco Industries were the biggest losers in the Nifty50 index.
Broader markets declined along with the main indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.98 percent and 0.48 percent lower, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma outperformed, while the Nifty Metal and Nifty Construction Durable declined the most.
