Stock Market Highlights on Friday, June 4, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex closed lower as traders assessed the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
The Nifty50 closed down 49.85 points, or 0.21 percent, at 23,366.70, while the Sensex down 116.67 points, or 0.16 percent, to 74,243.34.
Hindalco Industries, Wipro, and Trent were the biggest losers in the Nifty50 index.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap fell 0.35 percent and 0.06 percent, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty IT and Nifty Metal fell the most, while the Nifty Media rose.
The MPC unanimously opted to keep the policy repo rate at 5.25 percent and maintain a neutral stance, citing increased global uncertainty.
The central bank also outlined a series of initiatives to increase foreign fund inflows into local financial markets. The investment limit in equities for NRIs and OCIs is increased, and the universe of government securities covered by the fully accessible route (FAR) is broadened.
