Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, Aug 12, 2026: The major indices, the Nifty50 and the Sensex, dipped for the second day in a row as oil prices rose and uncertainty about a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz remained.
The Sensex declined 187.90 points, or 0.24 percent, to 77,966.35, while the Nifty50 dropped 35.75 points, or 0.15 percent, to 24,435.95.
The top losers in the Nifty50 index included Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Max Healthcare Institute, and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap rose 0.28 percent, while the Nifty SmallCap fell 0.18 percent.
The Nifty IT lost 1.54%, making it the poorest performer in the sector. Meanwhile, the Nifty PSU Bank climbed 2% to outperform its peers.
