Share Market Close: Sensex falls 429 pts, Nifty ends at 22,603 as RBI hikes rate amid price pressure

Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, Oct 7, 2026: The benchmark indices ended their two-day upward trend after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5 percent and adjusted its monetary policy stance to ‘calibrated tightening’.

The Sensex dropped 429.11 points or 0.59 percent to 72,638.70, while the Nifty 50 decreased by 173.05 points or 0.76 percent to 22,603.05.

Titan Company, Adani Enterprises, and Hindalco Industries ranked as the biggest losers in the Nifty 50.
In the wider markets, the Nifty MidCap 100 decreased by 0.63 percent while the Nifty SmallCap 100 gained 0.30 percent.

By sector, the Nifty Metal dropped the most, whereas the Nifty PSU Bank increased the most.
