India won three additional gold medals on the final day of the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships on Sunday, finishing second in the medal tally after an excellent performance.
India won 19 medals in the four-day meet, including 10 gold, five silver, and four bronze, finishing second to China (14 gold, nine silver, and two bronze). Japan placed third with 18 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze).
On the final day, India earned two silver and one bronze medals.
The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team, led by Neeru Pathak, won gold in 3 minutes and 38.07 seconds, breaking the previous meet record. The team also included Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, Tahura Khatun, and Sehnoor Bawa. Japan established the previous meet record of 3:38.20 back in 2018.
All three medal-winning teams in the men’s 4x400m relay broke the previous meet mark of 3:07.38 established by Japan in 1999. China won gold in 3:04.88, while Qatar finished second in 3:05.06.
The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team also beat the meet record of 3:07.38, but finished third in 3:05.54.
The team included Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar S, and Mohammed Ashfaq.
Muskan kicked off the morning session by capturing the gold medal in the women’s 5,000 metres. She timed 16:53.08.
Venkatram Reddy Mogali won his second gold medal of the day in the men’s 800 metres. He finished in 1 minute 48.27 seconds, a personal best.
Nishchay, a discus thrower, just missed out on the gold medal and settled for silver with a throw of 60.10m, his personal best.
The women’s 4x100m relay team also won silver in 45.05 seconds. The team members included Kajal Hirabhai Vaja, Bhavana G, Aarti, and Nipam.
