Stock Market Highlights on Monday, April 13, 2026: In the second half of the trade, the Nifty50 and Sensex recovered significantly from the day’s lows, aided by relief from defence stocks. Traders also evaluated the geopolitical environment in Western Asia.
The Nifty50 closed 0.86 percent, or 207.95 points, lower at 23,842.65, while the Sensex fell 0.91 percent, or 702.68 points, to 76,847.57.
The top gainers on the Nifty50 index were HDFC Life Insurance Company, ICICI Bank, and Adani Enterprises.
Broader markets also recovered from their day’s trough. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.57 and 0.46 percent lower, respectively.
The Nifty Auto and Nifty Oil and Gas dropped the most. The Nifty FMCG and Nifty IT both underperformed. The Nifty Metal fell the least of its rivals.
The Nifty India Defence Index outperformed most thematic indices.
