Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, April 9, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex ended a five-day winning streak as oil prices continued their surge amid a shaky US-Iran ceasefire.
The Nifty50 closed 0.93 percent, or 222.25 points, lower at 23,775.10, while the Sensex fell 1.20 percent, or 931.25 points, to 76,631.65.
Jio Financial Services, InterGlobe Aviation, and Larsen & Toubro were the biggest losers in the Nifty50.
Broader markets outperformed their benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.25 and 0.20 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Private Bank and the Nifty Bank lagged their peers. The Nifty Metal emerged as the biggest gainer.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that the country’s history of breaching any type of agreement had contributed to its strong distrust of the United States. The transgressions include Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon and drones flying into Iranian airspace, he stated in a social media post.
