Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, May 27, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell as bank and financial sectors dragged, while traders navigated the tense geopolitical situation amid uncertainties about the US-Iran pact.
The Nifty50 closed 6.55 points, or 0.03 percent, lower at 23,907.15, while the Sensex fell 141.90 points, or 0.19 percent, to 75,867.80.
The biggest losers in the Nifty50 index were Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, HDFC Bank, and HDFC Life Insurance.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices settled 0.42 and 0.15 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Bank, and Nifty Private Bank underperformed. The Nifty Media, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Auto performed well.
The US carried out strikes in southern Iran on Tuesday, despite Washington’s continuous claims that discussions are ongoing and that a deal will be struck shortly. This highlighted the fragile status of the ceasefire between the two countries, which concerned investors.
