Stock Market Highlights on Friday, May 22, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex closed higher as the native currency rose strongly versus the US dollar, and bank and financial industry equities rallied.
The Nifty50 advanced 64.60 points, or 0.27 percent, to 23,719.30, while the Sensex closed 231.99 points, or 0.31 percent higher, at 75,415.35
The Indian rupee increased by 51 paise to an intraday high of 95.69 against the dollar. It closed at 96.20 per dollar on Thursday.
Trent, Shriram Finance, and Axis Bank were the top gainers on the Nifty50 index.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap closed 0.14 percent higher, while the Nifty SmallCap dipped 0.15 percent.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Financial Services, and Nifty Bank did well, while the Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare, and Nifty Media underperformed.
