Share Market Close: Sensex falls 281 pts, Nifty settles at 24,288; Nifty IT declines nearly 2%

Stock Market Highlights on Monday, Aug 17, 2026: The major indices, the Nifty50 and the Sensex, closed down on Monday, with IT and FMCG firms weighing.

The Sensex slid 281.09 points, or 0.36 percent, to 77,728.16, while the Nifty dropped 78.35 points, or 0.32 percent, to 24,287.65.

The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap closed 0.05 percent and 0.36 percent higher, respectively.

The top three losers in the Nifty50 index were Infosys, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, and HCL Technologies.

The Nifty IT fell over 2%, making it the poorest performer in the sector. Meanwhile, the Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty soared the most.
